Concord, Mass.

Each weekend, we try to visit a new place and learn a little more about the history of New England. A couple of weeks ago, we went to Concord, Mass. It's only about a 15 minute trip from our home.

On April 18, 1775, it was just a bridge across the Concord River in Concord, Mass. On April 19th it was the site of the first American victory in the Revolutionary War. Rebuilt many times, the present bridge is a replica thought to be like the one that British redcoats marched across—and were then forced back across by Minutemen from Concord and nearby towns. Today the North Bridge is among Concord's most beloved and visited sights.

I've never been one that loves history. In fact, I've never really liked it at all. Visiting these places has made me stop and think about how it must have been many years ago. The freedoms that many of us take for granted, were fought for right here on this same ground I'm standing on. After I finish this blog I'm going to look for books on New England history (since I don't remember much (any) of it) :)
